Honda Customer Mobility Assistance: Helping You Drive with Confidence

At Honda, mobility means more than just getting from point A to point B — it’s about independence, comfort, and confidence for every driver and passenger. That’s why the Honda Customer Mobility Assistance Program exists: to help support individuals with physical disabilities by making vehicle adaptation more affordable and accessible.

If you or a family member needs adaptive driving or access equipment, Honda may reimburse up to $1,000 toward qualifying equipment and installation on an eligible new Honda vehicle.

What Is the Honda Customer Mobility Assistance Program?

The program provides reimbursement to eligible customers who purchase or lease a new Honda vehicle and install qualifying adaptive equipment. Honda understands that mobility needs are personal, and while the choice of equipment and installer is always yours, this program is designed to help offset the cost.

Reimbursement amount:
Up to $1,000 per vehicle

Who is eligible:

  • The original retail or lease customer
  • Modifications for the owner or immediate family member
  • Vehicles purchased or leased new in the U.S. from an authorized Honda dealer

Adapting Your Honda: How the Process Works

Honda recommends starting with reliable guidance and taking the process step by step:

  1. Determine your state’s driver’s license requirements
Requirements can vary by state, so it’s important to know what applies to you.
  2. Evaluate your mobility needs
Contact the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) for expert resources and referrals.
  3. Select the right Honda vehicle
Work with your evaluator, adaptive equipment installer, and Martin Honda to choose the best Honda model for your needs.
  4. Choose a qualified mobility equipment installer
Look for experience, proper certifications, warranties, and service support. Honda strongly suggests using installers who are members of NMEDA.
  5. Get trained on your new equipment
Once installation is complete, make sure you receive proper training on how to use your adaptive equipment safely and confidently.

After everything is completed, submit your reimbursement application and documentation to recover up to $1,000 of your eligible costs.

Qualifying Adaptive Equipment & Requirements

Qualifying adaptive equipment includes modifications or installations that:

  • Provide convenient access to the vehicle, and/or
  • Enable a person with a disability to operate the vehicle

Important requirements to know:

  • Installation must occur within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty time and mileage limits
  • Most modifications require a prescription or medical documentation
  • Installers must be registered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and modifications must meet federal safety exemptions. Honda suggests that you request a copy of the Department of Transportation brochure “Adapting Motor Vehicles for People with Disabilities.” Copies are available at www.nhtsa.gov
  • Only one reimbursement request per vehicle
  • Requests must be submitted within 6 months of equipment installation

Honda acts as secondary reimbursement coverage if another source (such as insurance) contributes to the cost.

Exceptions Worth Noting

Some items may not require medical documentation or NHTSA verification, including:

  • Wheelchair or scooter hoists
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Modifications that do not impact federally regulated vehicle safety systems
